Saiid Zarrabian

President and CEO

Mr. Zarrabian has been with Cyntellect since March 2010 and serves as the company’s President and Chief Executive Office. He previously served as President and COO of Senomyx, a biotechnology company focused on the discovery and commercialization of new flavors ingredients, as COO of Pharmacopeia, a leading provider of combinatorial chemistry discovery services and compounds, and President and COO of Molecular Simulations, a company providing software, databases and custom services for pharmaceutical and chemical industries. Most recently, he has performed executive consulting services for a variety of small- to mid-sized companies including BioBlocks, eMolecules, Invitrogen, and SciTegic, where he served as executive consultant and acting COO until the company was acquired by Accelrys. Mr. Zarrabian currently serves on the board of biopharmaceutical company Ambit Biosciences, and chemistry eCommerce portal, eMolecules.

David A. Spector, MBA

Vice President of Business Development

David is Cyntellect’s Vice President of Business Development and joined the Company in February, 2009. Before joining Cyntellect, Mr. Spector held a director level position at Gen-Probe Incorporated where he spent four years helping to lead the company’s business and corporate development activities. Prior to Gen-Probe, Mr. Spector co-founded and managed a boutique institutional broker/dealer, WCM Partners, specializing in financial research on the technology and healthcare sectors for large institutional clients. David also spent time with Idec (now Biogen Idec) where he helped the company create a $100 million corporate venture group. Mr. Spector also worked with Avidyne Corporation, Wyeth, and US Filter in a variety of management capacities. Mr. Spector received his B.S. in Physiology and Neuroscience from the University of California, San Diego and an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan School of Management where he was awarded the school’s prestigious Patrick McGovern award for entrepreneurship.

David Voris

Chief Financial Officer

Dave joined Cyntellect in November 2007 and currently serves as the company’s Chief Financial Officer. Dave has 22 years experience as a financial professional, primarily with companies in the life sciences. Prior to joining the Company, he was the Chief Financial Officer of SynergEyes from February 2005 to November 2007. Dave also served as Chief Financial Officer of Laser Diagnostic Technologies from October 1999 until its sale to Carl Zeiss Meditec in December 2004. Additionally, David held positions in finance with Alaris Medical Systems and Metracor Technologies, and began his career at Deloitte & Touche as a CPA.

Board of Directors

Randal J. Kirk

Mr. Kirk joined as a member of the Company’s Board of Directors as Chairman in September, 2008. Mr. Kirk is Senior Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Third Security, LLC, an investment management firm founded by Mr. Kirk, since March 1999. Additionally, Mr. Kirk founded and became Chairman of the Board of New River Pharmaceuticals Inc. (previously traded on Nasdaq prior to its acquisition by Shire plc in 2007) in 1996, and was President and Chief Executive Officer between October 2001 and April 2007. Mr. Kirk began his professional career in the private practice of law. Previously, Mr. Kirk served as a member of the Board of Directors of Scios, Inc. (previously traded on Nasdaq prior to its acquisition by Johnson & Johnson) between February 2000 and May 2002. Mr. Kirk also currently serves in a number of additional capacities, including as a member of the Board of Directors of Clinical Data, Inc. since 2002 and Chairman of the Board since 2004; as a member of the Board of Directors of Halozyme Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: HALO) since May 2007; and as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Intrexon Corporation since February 2008. Mr. Kirk has served on the Board of Visitors of Radford University since July 2003, was Rector of the Board from September 2006 to September 2008, and has served on the Board of Directors of the Radford University Foundation, Inc. since September 1998. He was appointed to the Virginia Advisory Council on Revenue Estimates in July 2006, and was appointed as a member of the Board of Directors of the Virginia University Research Partnership in July 2007. Mr. Kirk received a B.A. in Business from Radford University and a J.D. from the University of Virginia.

Paul Billings, MD, Ph.D.

Dr. Billings joined as a member of the Company’s Board of Directors in December, 2007. Dr. Paul R. Billings, a board certified internist and clinical geneticist, was appointed the first Chief Medical Officer of LIFE Technologies on September 30, 2010. Prior to joining LIFE, Dr. Billings was the founding and acting Director and Chief Scientific Officer of the Genomic Medicine Institute at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, CA. Dr. Billings served as President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of CELLective Dx Corporation from November, 2007 through January, 2009. Since leaving CLDx, Dr. Billings has become Founder and Director of Omicia, Inc. and Executive Chairman of Melanoma Diagnostics, Inc. For five years until September 2007, he was Senior Vice President and Senior Geneticist at Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings Inc. Dr. Billings is a Co-Founder of CBR Systems Inc. and GeneSage Inc. He has also been Executive Chairman of Signature Genomics Laboratories LLC. He has served on the Board of Directors of CLDx, SGL, BioScale Inc., PAX Neurosciences Inc. and Lipomics, Inc. and several not-for-profit public interest organizations including the Council for Responsible Genetics, Student Pugwash and Catalysis for Health. He is a member of the HHS Secretary’s Advisory Committee on Genomics, Health and Society, the NIH Special Study Section on Salivary Diagnostics, and the Genomics Oversight Committee of the Department of Veterans Affairs. Prior to joining LH, Dr. Billings was Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief of General Internal Medicine at the Palo Alto VA Healthcare System and Stanford Medical School, and then CMO and Deputy Network Director of VISN 17 in the Department of Veterans Affairs. He has been Professor of Anthropology (adjunct) at the University of California at Berkeley and has published extensively on topics in immunology, genetics and medicine. Dr. Billings graduated with an AB in History summa cum laude from UC San Diego, received both his MD and PhD degrees from Harvard University where he worked with Nobel Laureate, Dr. Baruj Benacerraf, and has interest in diagnostics for medical care and personalized genomic medicine. He has active consulting relationships with a variety of public and private corporations and non-profits.

Matthew Crisp

Mr. Crisp focuses on corporate development and works closely with private and public portfolio companies and reviews opportunities for investment. Mr. Crisp serves on the Board of Directors of Synchrony, Inc., a Roanoke, Virginia-based high-tech engineering company, Cyntellect, Inc., a San Diego, California-based biotechnology company, Levelvision, a Roanoke, Virginia and San Francisco, California-based out-of-home digital media company, and on the Board of Managers of ECDS, LLC, an Alpharetta, Georgia-based enterprise software company. Formerly, Mr. Crisp worked closely with NewVa Capital Partners, LP, an early-stage private equity fund focused on investments in southwestern Virginia, and served as the Vice President of Finance and Operations and on the Board of Directors of Intrexon Corporation, a Blacksburg, Virginia-based life sciences company. Mr. Crisp received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance from Radford University, where he currently serves on the the Radford University Board of Visitors, the College of Business and Economics Advisory Council, and on the Radford University Foundation Board of Directors and as the Chairman of its Investment Committee.

Fred Koller, Ph.D.

Dr. Koller was a founding executive of Cyntellect and after establishing operations in 1999 had held various executive management roles in the company through August, 2011. Dr. Koller is currently a Vice President at Intrexon Corporation and serves as the Executive Director of the Intrexon Institute for Biomolecular Research. Prior to forming Cyntellect, Dr. Koller served in various management roles at Advanced Tissue Sciences, Aastrom Biosciences and Baxter International, in each case being responsible for developing and/or commercializing novel proprietary products which utilized the unique capabilities of living human cells. Dr. Koller holds a Ph.D. degree in Biochemical Engineering and a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, both from Northwestern University, and is author on >30 peer-reviewed papers >30 issued patents. Dr. Koller is an elected fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biomedical Engineers (AIMBE) and serves on advisory boards for Northwestern University and Purdue University.

Bernhard O. Palsson, Ph.D.

Dr. Palsson, the Company’s founder, served as the Company’s Chairman of the Board since the Company’s inception in 1997 until the fall of 2007, and he continues to serve on the Board. Dr. Palsson is professor of Bioengineering and Adjunct Professor Medicine at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Palsson co-founded Aastrom Biosciences (NASDAQ: ASTM) in 1988, where he served as the Vice President of Developmental Research for two years. Dr. Palsson is also the founder of Genomatica, a company that is focused on in silico biology. Professor Palsson is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and holds a Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin.
