Senior Mechanical Engineer
Job Summary
Design hardware and provide strong manufacturing hand-off of life science instruments. This is a hands-on technical contributor, responsible for design features, functionality, reliability, and performance. With limited frequency of supervision, document and develop design inputs, and design outputs under the company quality criteria. Contribute to preparation of project status reports and other technical systems documents. Interacts with other departments to solve product or project problems, improvements, or field complaints.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops instrument design details and presents at design reviews
- Requirements analysis and product definition
- Work closely with management on selection of technical strategies and roadmap
- Performance analysis and overall system integration
- Hands on participation in prototyping, verification testing and production introduction.
- Develop, schedule and execute hardware requirements per core team requirements.
- Evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications.
- Interact with R&D staff, other departments and customer/partners to solve product or project problems, improvements, or field complaints.
- Contribute to preparation of project status reports as well as technical system documentation needed in support of product release to customers.
- Continually improve level of knowledge in the field of instrument engineering and project management.
- Interface with critical contract resources and act as lead technical interface with vendors
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
- B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
- Eight or more years experience in direct product development of instrumentation in a manufacturing environment is required.
- Experience in mechanical design, system integration, hardware verification, and transfer to manufacturing.
- Proven experience in mechanism design and scientific solutions to electromechanical products.
- Understanding of imaging / optics a plus.
