Director, Manufacturing

Job Summary

The Director, Manufacturing is a lead role, responsible for the management of production, production engineering, materials management and supply chain. This position is responsible for production that meets quality standards, produced on time per requirements, and at cost targets.   This position will evolve the current processes to meet the anticipated growing demand, and will make supply chain recommendations to optimize the current capacity, quality and cost position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for production schedules.  Ensures that there are sufficient resources available for Production needs.
  • Responsible for ensuring that Product Quality Requirements are met and for developing programs to ensure that all personnel are adequately trained.
  • Oversees the supplier selection and negotiation process; establish and maintain contractual and business relationships with suppliers; monitor contract compliance and adjust sourcing strategies based on changing business needs. Maintain ownership of approved supplier process.
  • Coordinates and oversees production activities with contract manufacturers.
  • Leads problem solving, investigations and troubleshooting activities for specific manufacturing related issues. Assesses product failures and proactively forms investigation teams to assess product issues. Initiates efforts to solve problems and implement corrective actions. Follows up on implementation plans and monitors success of corrective actions.
  • Participates on relevant teams and committees regarding establishing and implementing policies and material flow. Communicates new or changed policies to personnel within area of responsibility and ensures implementation of changes. Coordinates efforts between manufacturing and other departments to achieve objectives. 
  • Champion safety, quality, and customer service in all activities. Promote universal and continuous improvement in these areas.
  • Direct the preparation of short-term and long-range plans and budgets based on broad corporate goals and growth objectives.
  • Develop and install procedures and controls to promote communication and adequate information flow within the organization.
  • Establishes operating policies consistent with the company’s goals and ensures their execution.
  • Ensures that all technical organization activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws governing business operations.
  • Provide sound management, cooperative/collaborative leadership and development and training for staff. Determine needs and make recommendations for future recruitment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • BS degree in a relevant discipline
  • Successful manufacturing engineering leadership experience
  • 4+ years of industry laboratory experience with cell biology, molecular biology and tissue culture is required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of industry experience, with 2 years being in a similar level management role.  
  • Demonstrated organizational, planning, management and progressive leadership skills.
  • Financial, project management, process analysis and design and technical skills are highly desired
  • Experienced establishing new systems and capacity in a high growth environment.
  • Ability to grasp issues in a dynamic environment and organize activities to quickly achieve desired outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to present a business case to drive process improvement.
  • Experienced with Lean Manufacturing, Operations Management and Contract Negotiations.
  • Knowledge of the overall safety requirements associated with the development, production and sale of life science instrumentation into worldwide markets.
  • Bright, with excellent analytical and strategic skills, good business judgment, problem-solving abilities, and implementation skills.
  • Strong relationship building and influencing skills.
  • High energy, innovative strategic thinker with the ability to meet or exceed stringent deadlines.<.li>
